Cowen Design Group served as the Civil Engineer and Landscape Architect of Record for the New Consulate project in Guadalajara, Mexico. The project included a new office building, marine residence, recreational facilities, and ancillary infrastructure. The sitework includes formal plazas of palm alleys which play on the vocabulary of the buildings canopy columns. Extensive tree preservation within the project boundary and at the building interface required direct coordination with local arborists as well as consideration for site earthwork operations and utility routings.

New infrastructure includes a onsite wastewater treatment plant, which utilizes treated wastewater effluent to address 100 percent of the site irrigation demand. In addition to the reuse of treated effluent for irrigation, the site also includes rainwater capture to be used for water features located in representational areas. Rainwater for the compound roadways are routed to several infiltration facilities, both surface and underground, allowing for the control and infiltration of rain events up to the 10 year storm.
